Ever since the UCP migration, the visual gallery editor has been adding the widths="185" parameter to gallery tags. In addition, it's also automatically changed the formatting and capitalization of the image names, but this doesn't affect the appearance of the gallery.
My opinion is that it is unfeasible to continue to keep reverting these edits because it is unlikely that the gallery editing software will be changed to stop making the automatic gallery modifications. The edits don't seem to be adversely affecting the display of galleries and so there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with them. Therefore, we should allow the widths parameter to be added onto articles when it is added due to the visual gallery editor. Since 185 seems to be the default value, if any other values are supplied as part of the widths parameter, it should be changed to 185, or the parameter should be removed entirely.
I recently created an abuse filter that should stop the majority of redundant gallery edits that don't add or remove any images. This should hopefully alleviate the concern of users potentially edit farming.
Let me know if you have anything to say about this issue or any other suggestions about what to do.
