Change Your Look

The avatar button to access the Change Your Look menu.

The Change Your Look menu is a feature of Animal Jam Classic that allows Jammers to customize their animal avatar. This feature has been a key element of the game since Beta Testing, but it has changed many times since it was first introduced. It can be accessed by clicking the small picture of the animal avatar in the bottom left of the game screen.

Clothing Search Rare Example

An example of the clothing search feature.

The left side of the menu is dedicated to the clothing inventory. Clicking on any clothing item causes the current animal to wear it and changes the item background to a golden color to show that it is being used. The clothing inventory can be sorted by which part of the body the clothing item is worn on (such as Head, Neck, Back, Legs, or Tail), by "Item" to group similar items together, by "All Newest" (which is the default) to sort the most recently obtained item towards the top, and by "All Oldest", which is just the opposite of the "All Newest" sorting order. Also, the clothing inventory can be searched to list only the items that include the search term in their name. There is also a recycle button (next to the sort button) that opens up a window for recycling clothing. Jammers can buy new clothing by clicking the "Shop" button under the preview panel, which will open the Jam Mart Clothing shop window.

Preview[]

The preview panel is located in the center of the menu and it allows Jammers to see a close-up view of their animal avatar while they are changing clothing or colors. This panel also includes a background to match the type of animal: land animals are pictured on a dirt patch with tall grass in the background, amphibious animals (animals that can be used both on land and underwater) are pictured on a sandy beach with blue sky in the background, and underwater animals are pictured underwater with rocks to either side and seaweed in the background. When the current animal is wearing clothing, a button will appear (similar to the "Clear Den" button when putting away den items) that will put away all worn clothing items.

Colors[]

The colors panel is divided up into three panels that share the same space: the "Change Colors" panel, the "Change Eyes" panel, and the "Change Patterns" panel. The default panel is the "Change Colors" one and it consists of two color palettes with fifty colors each; the top palette controls the animal's main color and the bottom one controls the secondary color. When a color is selected, the edges of that color will be highlighted in black. The "Change Eyes" panel includes another palette of fifty colors on the bottom and arrows at the top to select the shape of eye for the animal. The "Change Patterns" panel is nearly identical to the "Change Eyes" panel, but instead of eye shapes, the top section selects different pattern options.

Other Features[]

The clothing inventory shares the same space with the Trading options, which can be viewed by clicking the "Trade" button at the top of the inventory list. Below the preview panel and next to the "Shop" button is the Pets button that allows Jammers to access their inventory of existing pets, buy new pets, free unwanted pets, visit the Pet Stop, and open the Pet Den Item Shop. Above the preview panel on the left side is the Achievements button where Jammers can view a list of nearly all achievements along with a short description of how they can be obtained. Just to the right of the achievements button is the currency list that shows how many Gems the player currently has; when highlighted, it will show a drop-down with other types of currency such as Diamonds and Tickets.

Trivia[]

  • The sorting button was updated on April 14, 2016, with icons for the different clothing types instead of words.
  • Some animals, like the Polar Bear use default colors that are not available in the color palettes. As a result, the animal can never return to its default color once it has been changed unless a new animal is bought.
  • The clothing search feature was added as part of an update in November 2015.
  • The cleanup button was originally part of the preview panel, but it was removed for multiple years before it returned in a January 2016 update.
  • In the middle of 2017, there was an update that allowed animals that can be used in both land and underwater areas to see both land clothing and underwater clothing in their inventory at the same time regardless of whether they were currently in a land area or an underwater area.
  • There were originally only twenty colors in each color palette, but this was increased to forty on November 23, 2011. The color palettes were increased again to fifty colors on June 12, 2014.
  • There is a secret color in the color palettes that allows Jammers to select a hidden color by clicking along the right side of the bottom right color box.
    • The secret color used to be a dark magenta that was frequently called "raspberry", but this was changed into a light-blue color when the number of colors increased in 2011.
    • In early 2016, the light-blue color (commonly referred to as icy blue) was changed back to the dark magenta; before, the blue was selectable if the page is zoomed out to 25% before clicking in the bottom right corner, but when done as of July 2019, the color has been reverted back to the magenta.
    • Using the same instructions as above, clicking on the bottom left corner of the color slot will also change to the magenta color.
  • There is a glitch where the preview panel will not show a clothing item on the animal even though it is being worn.
  • There is a glitch where amphibious animals (animals that can go in both land and underwater areas) may appear to be wearing both land clothing and underwater clothing at the same time in the preview window.
  • Sometimes, the diamond signs do not show and instead is invisible.
  • There is a glitch when choosing a clothing category and click the clear items, a different item will appear when clicking something else. This causes member items to be accessible to non-members, however they do not show the items when closing the menu.
  • There is a glitch where, when trying to put an underwater item on a land and ocean animal while on land, the error window that pops up displays the message that appears when putting clothing on a mannequin that is already in use by another mannequin.
