Cougar

The Cougar is a members-only land animal.

Appearance[]

Cougars are large, tawny cats with big heads and small mouths. The underside of the cougar is a lighter color than the rest of its body. The torso of the cougar is much larger in comparison to the back of it. Its ears and nose are a default pink color along with large, black eyes. While most other big cats have thick or medium tails, the cougars' tails are curled in resting position and thinner than other big cats.

Act	Description
	The cougar sits, its back legs sticking out to the sides.
	The cougar chases a laser pointer, pouncing to catch it.
	The cougar shimmies to the right, crossing its legs, before sticking its left legs out to the side. It then shimmies to the left and jumps. This dance is highly similar to the one from the "Everybody wants to be a Cat" dance from the Disney movie "The Aristocats".
	The cougar lays its head on its front paws, while its legs lay sideways. The tail curls around its body.
	The cougar jumps up and down.

History[]

The Cougar was initially released on March 16, 2017, in the Diamond Shop. It was most recently released on May 2, 2025, in the Diamond Shop and left on August 8, 2025.

Trivia[]

There were paw prints and scratch marks, hinting to it in various areas around Jamaa.
According to Taylor Maw, the lead character designer of Animal Jam Classic, the Cougar originally had whiskers. However, they were taken off due to them not reading well at the small in-game size.
The default artwork for this animal has many similarities with the artwork of the Lynx: the mouth, nose, and eyes are the same shape; the tuft of hair on the forehead is the same shape; both animals have large front paws with smaller hind legs.
When the Backpack is worn, the color pattern is reversed so that the zipper color is the main backpack color and vice versa. This also occurs for the Rare Backpack.
- When sitting with the Backpack worn, the Cougar's tail will appear to clip through the backpack.
When the Tiara is worn, the color pattern is reversed so that the gemstone color is the main tiara color and vice versa. This also occurs for the Rare Tiara. Both of these glitches have now been patched.
When the Sports Jersey is worn, the stripes on the shoulders do not appear.
When the Witch's Gown is worn, the top half appears like a Princess Dress.
When sleeping while wearing a Spiked Wristband, the wristband appears to clip into the Cougar's head.
When wearing Elf Tail Armor (and items based on it such as the Silver And Gold Elf Tail Armor as well as the Spring Elf Tail Armor), holes appear in the armor when viewed from the back.
When playing Wind Rider, the cougar's eyes disappear unless a phantom is touched. This also happens to some other animals, such as the Lemur.
When the Mad Scientist Hair is worn, the goggles actually appear over the cougar's eyes instead of over the hair.
When the Alpha Sword is worn on the Cougar, it appears to be flashing white instead of shining.
When the Skeleton Suit is worn on the Cougar, there is an outline in the Cougar's main color.
When the Star Necklace is worn on the Cougar, it appears much darker than the color it actually is.
