A warning for suspected bullying
A warning, also called an alert, is a pop-up that appears when a user says something in chat that is considered inappropriate by the automatic chat filter. This can be for multiple reasons, including bullying, personal information, inappropriate chat or behavior, and scamming.
Appearance[]
A warning appears as a large beige screen with a hazard sign surrounded by leaves in the upper left corner. In the top center there is a brief reason such as bullying, personal information, inappropriate chat or behavior, or scamming, as to how a player got this warning, and below is a further explanation. The area outside the pop-up is dimmed out and the player cannot click on anything while the warning is in effect. The pop-up disappears after a few seconds.
List of Warnings[]
Pop-up Warnings[]
- Bullying: Bullying is against the AJ Classic Rules and is not allowed in Jamaa. Be careful how you chat with others. You might hurt someone's feelings, even by accident.
- Personal Information: It is against the AJ Classic Rules to share or ask for any personal information! This includes your real name, your address, and your phone number, as well as your usernames for YouTube, Skype, and other websites.
- Inappropriate Chat: Uh-oh! Your chat message combined words that may be inappropriate in AJ Classic. Please check your spelling and try again.
- Inappropriate Behavior: It looks like the conversation you're having isn't appropriate. Remember to follow the AJ Classic Rules so that all Jammers can have a fun and safe time.
- Scamming: Scamming is against the Animal Jam Rules and is not allowed in Jamaa. Remember to use the trading system for fair trades!
In-chat Warnings[]
These warnings replace any message sent by the player that is deemed to be inappropriate as a chat bubble above them. It appears in red text and it is visible only to that player.
- Your message was blocked because it may not be appropriate.
- Your message was blocked because it wasn't recognized by our system. We will review this message as we improve the chat system.
- Your message was blocked because your chat is in a restrictive mode and you may not be able to use certain words.
- Not to be confused with Restricted Bubble Chat, this "restrictive mode" blocks a message repeated more than ten times consecutively with this warning. The player will not be able to send that message for an unknown amount of time, but they can continue to chat as normal otherwise.
Trivia[]
- There is no way to close or minimize the pop-up. The player must simply wait until the pop-up goes away on its own.
- These warnings can also appear when trying to post a message on a Jammer Wall or when trying to send a Jam-A-Gram to another player that the filter detects as inappropriate.
- The in-chat warnings generally come up more often than the bigger, full screen pop-up warning, as a sort of minor infraction.
- In 2011, in-chat warnings for inappropriate messages read "Uh-oh! Remember the Animal Jam Rules." in plain, black text. It was visible only to that player.
- Some players theorize that the reason "pop-up" warnings are not used for minor inappropriate phrases as often as they once were is because they have an intimidating nature and may have frightened younger players who did not know they were typing something inappropriate.
- The warning pop-up bears resemblance to the pop-up that appears when a player is suspended.
- It is commonly believed that getting too many warnings will result in one's account being suspended, however, there is no evidence to support this. Warnings do not seem to have any effect on a player's account beyond preventing them from moving or interacting with the user interface for a short period of time. Warnings are also not recorded in an account's discipline history in the Parent Dashboard.
- Warnings can sometimes appear even if the player did not say anything obviously inappropriate. This is because the chat is mostly being monitored by an automatic chat filter that is trained to look for certain words or phrases, but cannot pick up on the context in which those words and phrases are said.
